Kopitiam started with a frustration we felt ourselves. The good document tools — the ones that edit a PDF, sign a form, merge a contract — are priced for people who reach for them every day. But most of us don’t. You need to fill in one form, sign one document, merge a couple of files — occasionally. Paying a subscription, or even a “one-time” fee, for something you open twice a year never made sense. So people end up fighting clunky free sites buried in malware ads, or paying for software they barely use.
We thought that was backwards. Everyday paperwork shouldn’t cost you anything.
So we made Kopitiam free. Genuinely, permanently free. Edit, sign, merge, split, fill — every tool, no paywall, no “pro” tier hiding the feature you actually need, no trial that expires. You don’t pay us, and you never will.
A free product still costs money to run — so instead of charging you, we work with our advertising partner, Slate Ads. They surface relevant, useful ads alongside the tools, and when those ads connect you with something you’re actually interested in, that’s what generates the revenue that keeps Kopitiam running. You get the tools for free; the ads quietly cover the bill. It keeps our incentive honest: we only make money if the product is worth coming back to.
The one thing we ask is a quick sign-up. It’s free and always will be — no card, no charge, nothing to cancel. It exists for a single reason: to keep bots out. Free tools are a magnet for automated abuse, and a sign-up is the simplest way to keep the product fast, clean, and available for real people instead of getting scraped or hammered into the ground. That’s it. Sign up once, and everything’s open to you.
We built Kopitiam for people who share the same struggle we had — anyone who needs solid document tools now and then, and doesn’t want to pay a recurring price or wade through sketchy free sites to get them. Kopitiam (“coffee shop”) is a place where everyone’s welcome to pull up a chair, whatever they came in for. That’s the spirit we wanted for a set of document tools: open, unpretentious, and there when you need it.
